A great find from a local New England estate! This scarce antique first edition is over 139 years old! First edition. In nice shape overall! Original publisher brown cloth binding shows some wear including rubbing and soiling to the boards and spine, some general wear around the extremities including bumping to the corners and fraying to the spine extremes, and some soiling and light spotting to the page edges. Gilt title lettering to the front board display nicely despite some light rubbing, and the gilt title lettering can still be read from the shelf despite fading. Nicely preserved overall! Internally, this volume is in good shape overall, with both boards firmly attached to the binding and all page groupings secure. There is some cracking visible to the gutter at the title page, however the book is tight overall. The text block of this volume is clean throughout. There is typical age-related toning to the pages, some light foxing and soiling scattered throughout, and some general edge wear and light creasing in spots, but otherwise this volume is clean and free from rips, tears, writing and markings.
