A view of Southampton, the spires of the churches of the town in the far distance, wooded hills to the foreground with three cattle grazing in the lush grass and a man and a dog on the path leading towards the town. DATE PRINTED: 1791, dated on the print. DIMENSIONS: The printed area, including titles, is approx. 23 x 17 cm, 9 x 6.5 inches (medium) plus margins. ARTIST/CARTOGRAPHER/ENGRAVER: Unknown PROVENANCE: The only other example I can locate is in the British Library. That example was recorded in the Catalogue of Maps, Prints, Drawings, etc., forming the geographical and topographical collection attached to the Library of his late Majesty King George the third, etc., London, 1829. No further details on the artist or publisher were recorded. TYPE: Antique etching and aquatint printed on paper. VERSO: There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is blank. CONDITION: Good, suitable for framing. Please check the scan for any blemishes prior to making your purchase.
