Description: A Sermon Occasioned by the Death of the Late Isaac Watts, D.D. Preached to the Church of which he was Pastor. December 11, 1748. By Samuel Chandler and printed in London by J. Oswald et. al. 1749, 46 pp, 7.5 x 4.75”, 16mo, disbound paper pamphlet. A Sermon Preached to a Congregation of Protestant Dissenter at Daventry in Northamptonshire, on Occasion of the Death of the Late Reverend Isaac Watts, D.D. By Caleb Ashworth and printed in London by J. Waugh, et. al. 1749, 44 pp, 7.5 x 4.75”, 16mo, disbound paper pamphlet. Both pamphlets are in as-is condition, with the cover of the Chandler sermon included but detached, while the Ashworth sermon is without covers or wrappers. Wear to leather on spines of each. Text blocks are complete, but the first few pages of the Chandler sermon are extremely loose, with loose pages additionally at the ends of both sermons. Typical toning consistent with age, as well as light foxing throughout. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. An extremely scarce collection of pamphlets, preached shortly after the death of Isaac Watts (1674-1748), an English Congregationalist minister, writer, and theologian, known partially as the author of “Joy to the World.” Likely disbound from a larger volume, and an excellent candidate for restoration and rebinding.
